As we all prepare to spend a cosy night in with family (or on Summoner's Rift) and count down the days until the turnover to 2017, let's take a quick look back at some of the highlights of UNSW LoLSoc in 2016!
Thank you, one more time for all your support and love for the society! Without all of you, we wouldn't have been able to run all these amazing events and create such wonderful memories in 2016.
In 2016, UNSW LoLSoc:
Had 768 registered members.
Ran 24 offline events
Held 24 online Friendly Friday sessions
Collaborated with 5 other UNSW societies
Introduced 3 brand new events
Gave away $370 worth of RP!
Gave away over $4000 in prizes!
O-WEEK & LAUNCH PARTY
We started off the year with a banger of an O-Week, with a record-breaking 269 sign-ups on the first day alone! There was lots of fun and RNG all around with the TF "Pick a Card" game, as well as daily events throughout the week including Tips n Tricks, 1v1 Tournament, PC Workshop and Scavenger Hunt!
With the year truly underway, it was time to party! We gathered for icebreakers, trivia and pizza and to meet new friends!
Four offline casual LANs (including the Girl's LAN) were held in 2016 at our partner internet cafe WangYu. Members were able to enjoy playing with their friends IRL for FREE!
Four viewing parties were held for the OPL Split 1 Finals, MSI, OPL Split 2 Finals and the World Championships at Hoyts. We're so proud of our members for always being the most excited, most hyped and most cheerful at all the viewings!
A total of six free BBQs were held (three per semester)! With special love added here and there (like free Infernal Diana skins) and constant menu improvements (think hash browns and iced tea), the 2015/2016 team might give the next season of MKR contestants a run for their money!
Oceanic University Championships
One highlight in our competitive calendar was for certain our achievements in the OUC! Thank you for the entire society for cheering Team UNSW on as we progressed to the Regionals and just falling short of the title!
Our 5v5 tournament in Semester 1 was met with much enthusiasm, especially from members in the lower bracket. Congratulations
ONLINE EVENTS: FRIENDLY FRIDAYS
Members gathered for weekly fun and $10 RP giveaways on the Rift! With Riot implementing rotating game modes, Friendly Fridays became better than ever! From Legend of the Poro King to Ascension, when we got bored of Summoner's Rift, there was always something to turn to!
GIRL'S CASUAL LAN
For the first time ever, we held a more intimate casual LAN just for the ladies!
BOARD GAMES NIGHT
We wanted to create a setting where members could bond outside of Summoner's Rift, and what better way than over some intense, friendship-destroying board games?!
JOINT TRIVIA NIGHT W/BLIZZSOC, DOTASOC & POKESOC
We had some amazing fun collaborating with other gaming societies this year in a joint triva night! It was sure a challenge for even the most knowledgeable among us!
JOINT CASUAL LAN W/BLIZZSOC & DOTASOC
Continuing our friendship with some of the other gaming societies on campus, we held a joint LAN! Highlights included the diverse range of awesome prizes that were given out and intersociety friendships that were formed!
END-OF-YEAR LAN: HOLIDAY WONDERLAN
And, of course. After a blast of a year, we had to end with a bang too. Holiday WonderLAN, ran by our major sponsor Gigabyte in collaboration with us and BlizzSoc was PACKED with fun. From tournaments to VR demos to chill corners and meet-n-greets with Loserfruit, Fassfy and Swip3rR, it was certainlytheevent of the year.
And with that, it's a wrap for 2016! Please stay tuned while we set up even more exciting events and fun for the coming year of 2017!
